These spaceships, then. They handle like a dream?
My sides, my sides. They are splitting...

Oh...
Skittery. Juddery. Lumpen crates. The handling, to be candid, is not good. The ships feel a bit light. Every nudge of the analogue (oh, and it don't half rumble, guv) sends the ship skittling sideways. The shoulder buttons enable you to 'nudge' the craft left and right - you can even use them to steer the floaty one around the circuit, should you choose to ignore the analogue stick.

Hmm. Doesn't sound impressive.
It isn't, unfortunately. There were games like this launched when the PlayStation was an infant. Cyberspeed, anyone? What about Hi-Octance? From the innovative house of Bullfrog no less. You won't remember these games simply because they were extremely poor. Heck, and we're talking 1995 here (not that year should count for much). For heaven's sake, we laughed at Microcosm when it pitched up on Amiga CD32. 'Revolutionary' it was, apparently.

Come on then. Plus points?
Well. What about the Arcade, Tournament, Battle and Time Trial options? And if you've got a pal who enjoys playing bad games you can hook up, split the screen and go head to head.

You don't like 360, do you...
It just seems a pointless exercise. Visually, it's hardly cutting edge and the handling of the blessed crates is awful. Still, the music's actually quite good. But this doesn't make up for the fact that it's poor. Wipeout 2097 (which is available on Platinum) remains a far superior floaty ship game. And it's got Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers on the soundtrack.

*A wealth of circuits
*Six ships, lots of game modes
*Two-player, split-screen
*Damned awful handling
*Looks four years old
