The Story So Far: Part Three

When is Dolphin's release date?
Dolphin is currently scheduled for "... a worldwide launch at the end of year 2000". More specifically, according to Nintendo sources, October 2000.

What is the probability of Nintendo meeting their projected Dolphin release date?
That, of course, is the question on everybody's mind. Numerous developers 'in-the-know' have privately told IGN that they absolutely do not believe Nintendo can ship Dolphin in 2000. Some have even gone so far as to say that they've heard Nintendo aren't even convinced they can make the release date. On the other hand, Nintendo have also reassured IGN on multiple occasions that Dolphin will definitely ship in 2000. Quite frankly, there is no way to know if this will happen or not. Given Nintendo's track-record though, specifically numerous delays of the N64 before it launched, IGN is taking the "we'll believe it when we see it" stance on the issue until further notice.

Which developers are officially backing Dolphin?
At a pre-E3 press conference held in May 1999, Nintendo officially confirmed that four development teams were already working on Dolphin software. Those teams are Rare, Retro Studios, Left Field Productions and Nintendo of America's newly formed internal development house, NSTC (Nintendo Software Technology Corporation). Additionally, the console will be heavily backed by Nintendo Japan's development studios, EAD. Finally, Acclaim Entertainment confirmed months ago that they have every intention of fully supporting the system.

Which developers/companies are rumoured to be making games for the console?
Though unconfirmed, all of the following companies are rumoured to be linked to Dolphin development: Looking Glass Studios, Factor 5/LucasArts, Capcom, Midway/Atari Games, Boss Game Studios, Konami, and Ubi Soft.
