Future Gamer: Issue 33 £0.00

"The stunted development of true adult themes in videogames can be attributed partly to the sheer amount of clout that Japanese corporate behemoths, Nintendo, Sony and Sega wield within the industry. These companies have built their empires on the foundations of the toy market, so retaining an inherent, archaic responsibility not to offend the kids - despite the fact that the bulk of videogames are now bought by adults". Thought provoking stuff, eh? Former Edge editor, Jason Brookes, looks at the thorny issue of adult content in videogames in this week's main feature.

It's not the best week for reviews, truth be known. But hey, when the going gets tough… Superman on the N64 is awful and the PlayStation's Bomberman Fantasy Racing is little better. You'll still have fun reading about them, though. And Star Wars: Phantom Menace on the PC is all right.

Future Gamer pen-and-inker Andy 'Jim' Ashwin has had an absolute whale of a time this week. His preview of Get Bass on the Dreamcast saw him casting Sega's 'rod' - it works a treat too, and when you get a bite, you hoist back the rod and out pops the bass into your virtual arms. Smashing with chips, too.

Game Kid didn't have quite as much fun on his trip to Cornwall, though.

Enjoy the issue,

Steve Bradley - Deputy Editor

Censorship's a thorny issue at the best of times. As groups across the world call for stricter controls over adult content in games, Future Gamer decides if guns, gore and bare naked ladies are a bad thing.
