3DO outline float plans

Trip's 'Hawkin' his wares again

M2 might not have made it, but 3DO are intent on floating in the United States for a second time. 3DO boss, Trip Hawkins, wants the company to expand and become a major force in Europe. This time though, the emphasis is on software as opposed to ill-fated hardware launches.

"Last year we were only on the PC and now we are expanding rapidly onto N64 and Sony (PlayStation)," Hawkins told Computer Trade Weekly. "Recently we were the only US publisher with a game in the top 10 in retail sales on all of these major platforms and they were all different games in different brands".

And he added: "Our goals in Europe are to recognise the customer differences in each country, to customise and localise our products correctly and to begin to publish our own games from our own European headquarters".

Former Domark boss, Dominic Wheatley, is putting together 3DO's European team. With Hawkins' experience at Electronic Arts, 3DO have every chance of establishing themselves as a publisher in Europe.
