The Language Of Videogaming
|
| Dolly |
This is a very particular term, used exclusively in the Future Gamer offices, exclusively during games of Actua Soccer 3. What does 'Dolly' mean? Well, it's slightly open to interpretation but essentially it's a soft goal. It's the kind Gabriel Batistuta scores when FG's art bloke, David, is playing Fiorentina and he shoots from the halfway line. The ball bounces just in front of your energy-challenged keeper and he lets it in. That, dear readers, is a 'dolly'.
Another example of a 'dolly' – and this is keenly contested by regular FG contributor Gideon Kibblewhite – is when you get the ball to someone like Liverpool’s Owen and he scores almost every time he shoots toward the top corner in a straight line. The 'dolly' is still a goal - and all goals count - and there's something deeply satisfying about scoring one because your opponent knows, he just knows that there was little or no skill involved and yet he's gone one-nil down. Practise the 'dolly' at home and you too can become the most hated person in your household/workplace.
