After their recent purchase of DiD, Infogrames have announced big expansion plans for the outfit whose most recent hit was Wargasm. DiD built their reputation on the back of exhaustive, detailed flight simulation but Infogrames will expand the team and diversify the range of games as well as the platforms. Infogrames chairman, David Ward, told MCV: "If DiD lacked anything before it was the unfulfilled need to take their PC skills over to the consoles. They did well but we need to take their genius and core flight technology to new formats".
Argonaut's Jez San, and Larry Sparks from GT Interactive have been added to BAFTA's awards committee. The judging committee will have a selection of new videogame-related categories to vote for when the awards take place on October 20. BAFTA are hoping that their Interactive Entertainment Awards become the most important gaming ceremony of the calendar. BAFTA always sounds impressive anyway, doesn't it?
Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid, has confirmed that a sequel to the PlayStation best-seller is being prepared for PlayStation 2. He believes that Sony's next-generation console will have the power required for him to realise his vision. No comment was made regarding a sequel for Sony’s existing machine.
Precedence Entertainment have released details of their new Tomb Raider collectible card game. The cards supposedly 'reflect all the adventure and excitement of the videogame' in an easy-to-learn card format. Each set will contain a random selection of cards of varying rarity, ensuring that you go out and buy hundreds of packs in the hope of finding the elusive naked Lara card. That was a joke. If the game doesn't quite live up to expectations you could use the cards to play snap. Or you could buy a pack of clothes pegs and make some nice spoke 'clackers' for your bicycle. Vroom!
Sega have revealed specific details of the limited edition Seaman Dreamcast package. Five hundred clear Dreamcast consoles bundled with a controller, VMS, microphone and the bizarre virtual pet game will be available in Japan from July 29 at a price of 34,000 yen (that’s about £170). We want one.
Nintendo of Japan have announced plans to release a piece of software that will enable Game Boy users to download and play games via cellular phone. The software is scheduled for release sometime next year. Nintendo plan to offer online gaming action through several leading Japanese mobile communication providers. It is not known whether the software will ever be available outside Japan.
