For sure. But how does it actually play?
Well it's certainly not Ridge Racer! It's very Mario Kart in nature, which is not a bad thing. In fact, it looks like it could be the best Mario Kart clone to date. You'll find plenty of power-ups in the shape of Lego bricks, including shields, homing missiles and turbo boosts. All the stuff you'd expect really.
Oh great! So it's just a stupid clone.
Not at all. Lego Racers doesn't have the cheap feel of a shoddy cash-in clone - the quality is evident throughout, from the menu and car-building screens to the racing itself. Also, you can't get Mario Kart on the PC and this is definitely the finest substitute.
You can get Mario Kart on the PC?!
Only if you've got an emulator. If Nintendo were to find out that you've got the Mario Kart ROM on your PC they would not be best pleased.
Let's not get onto that whole piracy thing. I know it's killing the industry.
So long as you're aware. Anyway, back to Lego Racers. Is there anything else you need to know?
Well... I'm a bit concerned. Isn't Lego just for kids?
Lego maybe... Lego Racers no. This game should appeal to all ages, especially fans of Mario Kart. Come to think of it, Nintendo's masterpiece seemed a bit childish at first glance, didn't it?
*You can build really mad cars...
*... and equally insane drivers
*It's like Mario Kart but different and on the PC
*Graphically superb, providing you've got a good 3D card
*A tad slow at the moment - should be sorted by the review stage
