He's Game and he's the Kiddie

This Week - You Only Live Thrice

"Mr Bond! What an unexpected displeasure."
"I assure you, the displeasure is all mine, Game Kid. I might have known it was you behind all this."
"It's a downside of my trade, Mr Bond, to be forever condemned to appear only at the very end of these affairs. You know Miss Croft, I believe."
"You mean in the biblical sense?"
Game Kid's smile, thin at the best of times, becomes strained. "Guards! Search him."

Bond is frisked and relieved of his gun and a small box.
"Ah! A WonderSwan. And with Densha de Go!. An ingenious device, if a little primitive. You always did like your toys, Mr Bond... Have it back; it will be the last thing you enjoy."
"You're too kind."
"Of course I am; only a fool would overestimate me. In the meantime, before I fail to kill you and stupidly allow you escape, let me show you round my secret base."
"What, no dinner?"
"We haven't got the time for me to make all the mistakes in the book, Mr Bond. You know what this is?"
"An ordinary PlayStation, built in Japan; playing a rather shit game."

(Stiffening ever so slightly.) "Very good, Mr Bond, but not quite. What you see here is my lifetime's work: the world's first truly addictive video game. For years I've been trying to perfect it, but in the past, previous employers - the fools! - have, shall we say... failed to appreciate my talents. Nintendo, Sony, bah! What did they know? Nothing. For what did they lose when they carelessly tossed me aside? This..."

He holds up in a slender hand a small microchip. "It doesn't look much, does it? But within this circuitry lies one of the greatest inventions of the age: the pseudo hypnotic pulse emitter. When this is placed in any games machine - be it a PC, a PlayStation, anything - the player immediately becomes physically and emotionally hooked to all my games. Even Competition Knitting, Mr Bond..."
