Why do so many people watch Formula One? Is it the thrills and spills of the daring overtaking moves at 200mph? Is it because for once Britain actually has several people involved who are capable of winning? Or is it simply because you want to see some cheating German fly into a tyre wall at over 100mph?
Whatever your reason for watching, Nintendo have pulled off a rare feat by coming up with a Formula One game that delivers all of these elements, wrapped up in some of the best graphics you'll see in a racing game on any system. There's an entire season of high power races featuring the fastest cars you'll see outside a land speed record attempt on an American salt-lake bed. As an extra bonus, Nintendo have also managed to retain all the elements of realism that most console racing game developers manage to lose in their quest for speed and flash graphics.
F1WGP2 builds on the huge following of the first game with a tweaked engine so it looks even better (hard to believe I know, but they've done it) and a ton of options, settings and modes. They skipped on all the boring technical settings that only true anoraks give a damn about (let's face it, if a car set-up is good enough for the likes of Hakinen and Schumacher, it's good enough for you), but rest assured, there's enough in here to keep the rest of us tinkering for a while.
