More Metal Gear Solid. How can that be anything other than a gift from the gameplaying Gods in the sky?
Les Ellis
Actually, when the 'more' is not actually another huge mission with more weapons, objectives and characters, but a huge batch of extra VR missions (used as a training mode in the first game, remember) you could be forgiven if the words 'rip off' and 'ruthless cash in' went through your mind. Especially as in Japan this was bundled as a special edition with the original game, not a single add-on disc like the UK gets.
These extra missions are split up into four main groups (stealth, weapons, advanced and special), with each stage getting progressively tougher. Your performance and time are used to gauge when you can access some of the extra hidden gems on the disc. Sure, these extra missions may be slightly more intense than the original game and need more precision from you, but they lack the kind of depth, variety and freedom that Metal Gear Solid had.
Extra modes like the Puzzle mode where you have to figure out the best way to accomplish a task, as well as the Variety and NG modes, add a little bit of extra value, but it's still missing a killer new mission to take the hero Solid Snake through - after all, there isn't really much variety in the graphics when everything is in VR mode.
