Rainbow Six was a PC soldier sim that allowed you to kit-out teams of special forces with bizarrely assorted military hardware and storm terrorist hideouts to rescue hostages. Tense and exciting, its missions required a little planning before your teams piled in, guns blazing. SAS heaven, it was... Unlike this letdown of a PlayStation version, which looks crap, gives you three soldiers instead of three teams, has a dodgy controller, no element of strategy and hostages that decide to wander off at the most inopportune times and start doing the Michael Jackson moonwalk. An opportunity missed, Rainbow Six is not so much a cut down version as a cut to pieces version. Having said that, it can still be a laugh at times.

Space Invaders

Space Invaders? No! Surely not. To say we've all been there, done that and bought the T-shirt would be something of an understatement. That we've been there and done that wearing a nasty pair of flares and a T-shirt you wouldn't foist on your worst enemy would be far better way of putting it, and to say Space Invaders is a game that should be quietly allowed to fester in peace and left undisturbed until the day aliens really do invade Earth would be a simple truism. And yet Activision and Z-Axis in their great wisdom have decided to bring it back, with new graphics and new bosses. What can you say? Some gamers will go out and buy it, of course. All rest of us can do is hope that they don't live next door.
