Thrasher: Skate and Destroy page 2 of 2
PlayStation

Sounds like fun.
It is. In fact, you can get up to all sorts of mischief, from riding rooftops to grinding along railings, and you can even manage to break your board if you're not careful.

Surely not!
Yes, you can. Your board is assigned hit points, and the more you fall off - or 'wreck', as we say in the biz - the more you weaken it. Come a cropper once too often and you're not only out of a race but out of a skateboard.

Ouch. That's a bit harsh.
Maybe, but once you get proficient in the game you can attract sponsorship from the various skate kit designers featured.

What, real ones?
Absolutely. And as your skateboarding star rises and you trick your way up the levels, you can even find yourself on the cover of a mocked up version of real-life skateboarding mag Thrasher.

So that's what the 'Thrasher' bit's all about. Anything else I should know about?
One of the multiplayer games in Skate and Destroy is a variation of 'Horse', where you do a trick and then your opponent must equal it or better, and so on. The first person to foul up loses, basically. Another of the multiplayer games - and this is really nice, actually - is based around who can come up with the most damaging wreck.

So you like it then.
Well, the levels completed so far look great, and the handling of the skateboard feels good. If you could compare it to anything, you might say it's similar in feel, looks and attitude to Cool Boarders 3, and that's no backhanded compliment.

  • The skateboards handle really well
  • The levels look cool enough, so far
  • Nice cops 'n' skateboarders angle
  • Some good multiplayer games to get involved in
  • Skateboarding, snowboarding - there's a theme developing here...
