Sierra's Grand Prix Legends captured the hearts of PC racers who hankered for the good old days of front-engined racing, and now Hasbro are hoping to do the same...

How can you race with an engine up front?
Before the advent of ground effects and oversized air deflectors, racing was all about man and machine in perfect harmony, where the man was probably more liable to outlast the machine, and that's what Spirit of Speed is all about - racing in the '30s.
Top Hole! I say! And all that.
Exactly. This game's about cars drifting on all four wheels when cornering, the driver wearing a thin leather helmet and goggles with a meter-wide steering wheel in their hands.
It's going to be tough to play then.
No it's not. Although the game's got the full-monty season mode that sim fans will love, the developers have included an arcade mode that should appeal to people who just want to tear around the tracks for half an hour.
And what tracks are there?
There are nine of them, ranging from Brooklands in the UK to Tripoli in Libya.
And how does it look?
Stunning. Not only are the tracks all photo-realistic, but so are the cars, from the dashboard to the shining metal surfaces. This is one good-looking driving game!
