International Track & Field 2 page 2 of 2
PlayStation

But what of the events?
International Track & Field 2 sports 12 events - that's a whole event more than the original boasted. Six of them are retained from the first game - 100m, freestyle swimming, long jump, pole vault, hammer and javelin. The other six events are canoeing, weightlifting, springboard diving, horse vault (no, not a real horse), sprint cycling and the 1km time trial (also on a bike).

Are the new events any good?
They certainly add a bit more variation to proceedings, although the sprint cycling is a nightmare - imagine going like the clappers, 100m style, for a whole minute and a half. It's excruciating even when applying our innovative techniques. Other events, such as canoeing, involve a less painful, yet trickier, rhythmic timing technique. Such events provide a welcome break from the button-frigging frenzy.

How about the weird stuff?
We haven't come across any as yet, like the bird-spearing javelin throw of the original, but maybe that's just because we're rubbish. Unlikely though. It's probably just because we're playing early preview code and Konami haven't added those bits yet. Yes, we'll stick with that version of events. Was that the space shuttle?

Do say...
That was crap! I'll beat that by at least 0.17 of a second.

Don't say...
I'm just not competitive by nature.

  • Excellent four-player fun
  • Beautiful TV-style presentation
  • 12 vastly different events
  • Oh, the pain! Expect digit and controller damage
  • Essentially a 15-year-old arcade game with a facelift
