Codemasters set the rallying benchmark with Colin McRae so developers Magnetic Fields had their work cut out to compete, but boy! They've put the groundwork in. This is one superb rally game. Not only is it excellent to play but it's the officially licensed game of the British Rally Championships, so there's a whole 400-plus miles of real courses in the game to give an even more authentic feel. There's a plethora of cars, a whole range of weather conditions to contend with and gameplay that gets the adrenaline pumping. A game that not only rewards driving skill but demands you think about what you're doing too. Cracking stuff.

The only problem with this driving game is that it's too easy. You're driving around London (most of the time), avoiding the rozzers and oncoming black cabs (which aren't really black these days, what with fancy advertising paint-jobs) and it looks tremendous. It plays well too, but only in an arcade style. There's no sense of real-world physics happening as you blast round corner after corner with little attention paid to the brakes, and that's the game's main failing. You'll have worked your way through the game's various leagues sooner rather than later, which is a shame because it had a lot of promise, and at only £20 it had the right price.
