Oh right. Sounds pretty groovy so far.
It is. These are the days of giant zeppelins criss-crossing the skies, with lone pirates and organised militia gangs fighting each other for control of the airways.
So what am I doing here?
You're a rookie pilot trying to make a name for yourself in this daredevil world of bizarre planes and booty to plunder. Imagine a sort of Elite set in 30s America with not so much trading but plenty of aerial combat and you'll be getting close to the idea of Crimson Skies.
And it's based on a board game?
That's where the idea came from. Microsoft acquired FASA Interactive who designed the original Crimson Skies board game and they've turned their talent to designing and adapting the game's universe to the PC. The actual coding of the game is being done by codeshop Zipper Interactive, who were the peeps behind MechWarrior 3.
That's some pedigree. What's it like then?
The early version we played looked great and played well too. We haven't had time to fully absorb the atmosphere of the game, but even so, we feel that it's going to be an important part of Crimson Skies and we can see this one becoming really absorbing.
Do say...
Tally yo-ho-ho! (Geddit?)
Don't say...
Press F7 two times until 30 degrees of flaps are extended.
Wacky aeroplanes to dogfight in
Earn a name for yourself among the aerial pirates
Bizarre alternate '30s America
Full-on arcade-style shenanigans with a complex story running underneath
It's based on a board game
