A Site For Sore Eyes
|
| Och Aye the Noo! |
Tuesday 25 sees Rabbie Burns' birthday, Scotland's foremost poet. The Rabbie Burns site has everything you could want to know about the man, with full versions of his best-knows works, pop-up facts, history and even an extensive guide to making haggis. You can send Burns-related e-cards and even chat to other Burns enthusiasts on the forum. With information on how to conduct a proper Burns Supper (with a main course of haggis warm reeking, rich wi' champit tatties and
bashed neeps, of course), this site will at least mean you have some idea of the tradition behind this great excuse for a piss-up.
And of course, for most of us, Burns Night means one thing only - whiskey, and lots of it. Out of the many whiskey sites out there, the Famous Grouse site in particular caught our eye. Apart from the great animations of the grouse from the TV ad, this well laid out and gorgeously presented site includes an online shop, competitions, past adverts, downloadable wallpaper, cocktail recipes and even information on the various types of grouse! What more could you possibly want? Apart from the first verse of the fantastic Burns poem, To A Haggis, of course...
Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy of a grace
As lang's my arm.
Great chieftain o the puddin'-race? Sounds like old Rabbie had a bit too much Famous Grouse to us...
