XCom Con?

Dear Future Gamer

Is there a free and good speed limiting program for the PC to allow the playing of older games that run far too fast? Having played email XCom recently, it got me in the mood to go back and have a go at the original versions. It wasn't until I loaded it that I remembered why I had stopped playing it. Even on the slowest time setting the days pass before you can attempt to sort out your base, and the aliens are out of radar range before you can send an Interceptor up.

When will games companies learn that they need to put limiters on games? It isn't only XCom; the original Theme games (Park and Hospital) also suffer from the same problem. Is it simply that the companies don't think their game is a classic and won't be being played in two years' time? Also, with the release of the XCom box set, are the version in there limited or are they selling games that may be unplayable for a large number of buyers?

Phil Cole

FG: We don't often get letters complaining that games run too fast, but I can sympathise with you Phil. Do any of our more technically minded readers know where to direct Phil to some sort of CPU speed limiter?
