| Pong: The Next Level |
| PlayStation |
From: Hasbro |
Some of the more cynical among you are going to greet the arrival of Pong on the PlayStation like you would a fart in a small room. Others of us are quite content to resist the temptation to call it a tired, old cash-in, because we really quite enjoyed playing it. You see, Pong: The Next Level isn't merely some re-release given a brush-down: it's been a full makeover. With 20 bright and cheerful themed 3D levels, with new characters and animations, as well as the option of single and multiplayer action, offensive and defensive power ups and paddles that can catch, throw and spin the ball, it certainly has lots to offer for the blissfully undemanding. Innocent fun you can lose yourself in.

A turn-based football game played via your email post box, this is a delightful little laugh from Hasbro. It's perfect to play at home in England with a friend who lives in Australia, or at work in the office with a colleague when you're 'between jobs' or munching a sandwich. It's very rudimentary, of course - the 2bit graphics make Sensible look like Final Fantasy XX and the referee gives goals that sneak through the side netting - but it's a tremendous laugh. You can pass, dribble, shoot and even tinker with your team. After you've lost the ball or scored a goal you can put your feet up (or do some work) while your opponent gets back to you. Nice. Great fun, great value (£9.99), it's only downside for us is the fact we've done absolutely nothing but play the bloody thing all week. As you've probably been able to tell...
