Wow! Could it be another ranking system whereby you email your best times?
Sickening, isn't it? Yes. Well, not entirely. While Sega haven't promised real online racing, they have mentioned a 'Ghost Data' mode. If you've ever played Mario Kart in Time Trial mode, you'll remember the spooky ghost car that repeated your best lap, over and over, setting you a target to beat. It's hoped that Sega GT will have a feature whereby you can upload your best 'ghost' and challenge other drivers to download it and then attempt to beat it. Not exactly what we consider online gaming but at least it's a step in the right direction.

Agreed. Are there loads of cars?
Around 200 at the last count, all from real Japanese manufacturers, although we expect a few European and American marques will be added before it hits our shores. There are plenty of different classes on offer (4WD, front-engined, mid-engined) in a range of colours, with a choice of three- or five-door, alloy wheels, electric sunroof and Alpine stereo. We may have got carried away with that last sentence. Any road, winning races in Championship mode will earn you money to spend on cars. Coming first also gets you a bonus car. Sound familiar?

I should coco! Sounds brilliant though.
Let's hope it lives up to expectations. It's going to face some pretty stiff competition from Metropolis Street Racer and, of course, Gran Turismo 2000 on PlayStation2.

Do say...
I'll take a couple of those Champion high-performance spark plugs, if you please.

Don't say...
Which button is it for the guns?

  • It's like Gran Turismo but prettier
  • Loads of depth, which is sure to please armchair grease monkeys
  • Build your own car from scratch
  • Around 200 different cars
  • Online modes sound like a bit of a cop out
