(Cough.) Indeed. Let's get among the balls, though. What's the play like?
Superb. As we've already said, it's easy to pick up and play, being squarely aimed at encouraging you to make big, realistic-looking breaks. It also has a superb physics engine, built under the guidance of a top pro, which really does simulate ball and cushion collisions and allows you to position the ball using a marvellously intuitive control system. You might say WCS is a victory for the common snooker player.
It doesn't look particularly beautiful, though, does it?
Mate, this is snooker, not Miss World.
The game's got the World Championship licence, so does that mean you get all the World Championship players?
It certainly does. You can play Jimmy "He's got to win it this year, surely" White or Stephen "The Gurning Bairn" Hendry. In fact, all the top 20 heavyweights feature alongside a whole snooker hall of lesser known names. The AI mimics the characteristics of all these players too, simulating their break-building skills, shots under pressure and tactical skills.
Can you play at the Wembley of Snooker?
What, you mean Wembley Arena?
No. I mean the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield.
Yes, you can. And you can play at Wembley.
I'm getting my cue out as we speak. What modes are there?
Championship, where you play the full World Championship; Single Match, where you can play an AI or a friend; Tournament, where you can set up your own 'Masters' competition; and there's also a snooker Masterclass lesson.
And is Jimmy White going to win it this year?
We'll have to give that one a miss.
Do say...
Snooker fans could be cueing up for this one.
Don't say...
The one that goes: "He missed the pink and potted the brown."
More atmospheric than the Crucible
Marvellously realistic
Has you playing snooker in no time
All the players and venues
Graphics take second place to the physics
