Frames Per Second (FPS)

Simply, this is a measure of how many frames are drawn per second on a screen. The more frames that are drawn every second, the smoother and more realistic the motion is on screen. In standard European PAL (Phase Alternate Line) television broadcasts, 25 frames are drawn on the TV every second, although there are still many videogames which draw less than 25 frames per second which leads to glitchy viewing. The NTSC standard broadcasts (in Japan and the United States) run at 30 frames per second.
