Great Videogames Through the Ages
|
| Parappa The Rapper |
'What', you might think, 'is this game doing here?'. Great videogames are being made all the time folks and although this quirky PlayStation title's only two years old it has staked a place in the videogaming Hall of Fame.
For those unfamiliar with the plot, allow us to explain it. You're a cardboard cut-out of a character called Parappa (a dog) who's in love with Sunny Funny (flower-faced chick) and wants to impress her. This means he has to, well, rap his way through several bizarre experiences. By pressing a combination of buttons in order, and on the right beat, the player got to get Parappa believing in his abilities. It's truly bizarre and an awful lot of fun as you 'Jump, kick, pose' while learning a martial art from Chop Chop Master Onion and 'crack-crack-crack your eggs into the bowl' with Cheap Cheap the Chicken. Starting to get the picture?
Though Parappa was single-player and only had half a dozen stages to play through it's the game's sheer off-the-wall-bonkers-loony quality that earns it a place in Great Videogames Through The Ages. Future Gamer are especially happy for Parappa because it proves that maybe, just maybe, there's still a place for innovation in today's console society. Parappa 2, called Um Jammer Lammy, is due for release some time in the not-too-distant future. We advise you to play it.
