A Quick Word With
Charlotte Glynne

Hey, the videogames industry isn’t a bastion of male domination. It’s high time we had A Quick Word With… a female of the species. Charlie works at marketing agency Bastion and she enjoys wine and chips – surely the finest combo since Street Fighter? Go girl, as they say on American talk shows…

Tell us about the best event you’ve been to?
Easy one to start with then - it has got to be the Sony party at last year’s ECTS (European Computer Trade Show), with Pulp (no less), bumper cars, games, air rifle stalls, table football, a treasure chest full of chocolate coins and an endless supply of alcohol.

What’s the best work-related trip you’ve been on?
Last year’s E3, I suppose. But that’s probably more to do with the Lennox Mall in Atlanta than the actual show (I’m such a girl, aren’t I?). Mind you, Little England in Fado Fado was quite a laugh as well.

Where’s Bastion? Best local public houses?
Bastion is in Farringdon in London. Fave local boozers are Can (they let you dance on the bar), Fluid (chilled out Japanese place with cool music), the Gate (excellent wine and chips) and, when we’re desperate, All Bar One over the road.

Who’s your favourite game character?
God, this is a tough one. I love the old ones like Sonic and Tails. Although I quite like Abe - he’s a real girl’s character isn’t he? Bit wimpy but dead cute.

Favourite videogames magazine? Apart from Future Gamer!
I think I’m going to go for N64. Nice design and beautifully written.

What single games-related thing are you most looking forward to this year?
Has to be Dreamcast, hasn’t it? If anyone was to say anything different, they’d be lying.

What games do Bastion play in the office?
Last summer, we couldn’t get enough of multiplayer Circuit Breakers. It brings out the evil, competitive streak in people. Viva Football has helped us while away a considerable amount of hours recently - oh, and Half-Life at lunch time. And then came Metal Gear Solid ...

Sony or Nintendo?
Both. Gotta be. How could you live without Zelda or Metal Gear Solid?

Most played game last year?
Apart from Circuit Breakers, it’s probably Glover on Nintendo - I seemed to spend half my life demoing it to people.
