Superman page 2 of 2
N64

Superman's one-player game is divided into 14 missions which generally involve making your way to a certain part of the map to compete in a sub-game. These might have you navigating a maze which is effectively just a long corridor, or saving a pedestrian from wandering underneath a slow-moving car some half a mile away. Thanks to the appalling control system and complete lack of decent collision detection, success is in the lap of the Gods.

If you can bear it, there's a four-player battle game in there as well. It has nothing at all to do with Superman though, as each player pilots a spaceship around the poorly designed arenas. You can collect different weapon power-ups, although the only difference appears to be a change of sound effect, because they all look identical. A Race mode is available too, for those desperate enough to try another option in their search for Superman's elusive redeeming feature.

Games this bad are few and far between, and should be savoured in order to appreciate just how much effort goes into even the most average software. Compared to this, things like Charlie Blast's Territory and Rampage Universal Tour are works of genius. Stunningly enough, Superman shot to number one in the US charts. Be thankful for small mercies - you have been forewarned.

FG verdict
Future Gamer can find nothing to recommend this sub-standard pile of steaming pap. A rare slip-up for the quality control department at Nintendo. 15%
