World Driver Championship
N64 Release: September 24 From: Midway

Until recently, the N64 suffered from a serious lack of decent driving games. Then came the sublime F1 World Grand Prix and the rather nice Beetle Adventure Racing. But what next for the N64 driving fan? Realism? Enter World Driver Championship...

Finally, a Gran Turismo beater to shove up my PlayStation-owning friend's tail pipe!
Hold your horsepowers! Gran Turismo is very fine indeed but this is a different type of game. Comparisons will undoubtedly be made - they both look great, have plenty of cars and are tough to get into. You'll spend the first few goes spinning off the track at almost every corner.

Ooh great! That sounds like so much fun.
As with Gran Turismo, and arguably most great games, half the fun is in simply learning how to handle the beast. The realistic physics mean that World Driver Championship isn't for the casual/arcade racing fan. However, the dedicated (or just plain stubborn) among us will reap tremendous rewards. Practice makes perfect and all that.

I've heard that the graphics are a bit smart. Is this true?
A bit smart? They're blooming lovely! The hi-res mode offers graphics superior to anything seen before on the N64, without the need for an Expansion Pak! However, we found it was easier to play the game in normal resolution. The graphics are still fantastic and you get to see a lot more of the track; the hi-res mode uses a widescreen or 'letterbox' display. The slightly squat appearance reduces your depth of vision quite significantly, so it's best to use the hi-res mode for replays only.

Which are rather nice too?
Good golly Miss Molly! They really have to be seen to be believed. The first time you see a replay you'll probably want to open your N64 to see if anyone has stuck a super new graphics chip in it.

Enough already, I'm convinced! What about the game?
It's massive! You'll be kept busy for ages with all the cars, tracks and modes of play on offer.
