PlayStation Price Cuts - What You Think

The recent slashing of PlayStation games' prices, spearheaded by Virgin and followed by a number of multiples, has created a stir in the gaming world. With the news that prices are to return to their previous position of around £45, we've gathered together some of the key missives sent to us on the subject. Here's what you lot think.

Call me a heartless, unfeeling brute, but am I the only person who thinks that the consumer population is more important than smaller retailers are? If the retailers can't compete with Virgin's prices, who cares? They either reduce their prices or bomb out of the market. Yeah, a guy will lose all his money, but that has never stopped large retail chains killing small shops before. We don't go around saying, "Ooo, that evil Lord Sainsbury has put the corner shop out of business." Big deal.

The only arguments for smaller shops to stay open are that you can buy old games, which you'll play for about two hours, and you can exchange old games. In the first case, just save your money and buy a good game. In the second, go to Electronics Boutique or put in a free ad in Micro Mart. You'll probably get more money anyway.

In my eyes, smaller retailers can either shape up or ship out. Sorry.

I haven't bought a PlayStation game in over a year because I can't justify buying a CD that costs over £40. If this price cut stays, I'll definitely go out and buy a game or two that I've been itching to play.
