Dear Future Gamer
Phew! After returning home from a hard day at the 'Thought Police station' I look at Sean's letter (FG38) and have to reply. I fully respect your views and, yes, you have brought some valid arguments to my attention. Unfortunately I believe you are trying to manipulate the situation here. First of all television is a completely different format to gaming and trying to say that telling jokes is unoriginal is false as jokes are original (you don't know the punch line do you?) or else they would not be funny. If we were to stick the two medium into the same format then what you would be saying is thereare serveral different slightly different versions of the Fast Show on each channel which, in reality, does not happen, hence the same should be true in the computer games industry.
Your point on me actually insulting gamers and not companies I agree is true and so I won't argue with you on that. After this your letter becomes very confusing as you start ranting on about RPG'S not being RPG'S, so I'm sorry but I have no idea what you're going on about there! You then move into the point about converting NTSC games to PAL games which is fine but again I think you're trying to blind me from the truth. Every other game that gets ported over to Europe has to undergo this procedure so the cost is no more than any other game being brought to Europe in the same manner.
What I am trying to say is that there is no harm in releasing original quirky games over here if the publishers are actually willing to put money behind promoting the game. I am frankly fed up with the constant drivel that keeps coming out on the PlayStation and N64. Us UK gamers who want new, original games should be treated with respect and not suffer just because some gamers prefer to buy the same game with added options, levels etc. Surely there is room for both type of games? I await response but please don't make it personal. I am not attacking you Sean in any way, just arguing your views nothing more.
Rob Wilson
FG:
We'll give anyone the chance to respond to their critics and I'm glad that you've had the grace to concede that Sean was making a valid case for his views on certain points. That's what this Feedback section is all about, giving you, the readers, the chance to have your say. Keep 'em coming people.
