We took a look at the demo of this racer a couple of months ago and were mightily impressed - the graphics were top-notch as you zipped around at a cracking pace. With the promise of more tracks and umpteen cars in the full version, we just couldn't wait. Sadly, the finished product commanded less of our time than the demo. Yes, there are loads more tracks and plenty of interesting vehicles (from go-karts and monster trucks to buses), but there's not much else to keep the challenge fresh. The championship mode in particular proved extremely disappointing, with a menu system more challenging than the game itself. And then there's Eddi, a baseball-capped freak who pops up to offer advice and proves to be irritating within seconds. Fortunately, you can turn him off (if you can find the option in the labyrinth of menus) and are urged to do so at once. So, stick to the arcade mode and you'll find a perfectly decent racing game with plenty of options and pretty graphics, but don't expect to still be playing it after a week.

Oh deer. This really is poor. Whoever thought that it would be a good idea to make a parody of an already rubbish game should be shot. You see, Deer Avenger is an attempt at humour that will only be enjoyed by those it aims to mock - the million or so US 'gamers' who bought Deer Hunter. This time around the hunter has become the hunted; apart from that subtle difference it's the same game. Roar with laughter as you draw your quarry out of hiding by shouting, "Free beer," or farting in their general direction. Your sides will truly split when you find tell-tale hunter tracks like beer cans and porno mags. The only fun we had with this was when we first heard about it: "Did you hear about Deer Avenger? It's a hunting game where the deer is hunting the humans. Funny, eh?" Not really. This 'game' should have been an expensive joke on a comedy website, or at the very best shareware. Oh deer indeed.
