Trade paper MCV (The Market for Home Computer and Video Games) this week lead with a story based on a recent MCV-commissioned survey among Dreamcast owners, asking them, "Is the Dreamcast already suffering from a lack of releases?" Of the 738 responses they had to the question, 71 per cent agreed that the Dreamcast was indeed suffering. Sega apparently refused to comment on the survey results. Also taking front-page space is the story regarding Sony's planned meeting with some of Europe's leading publishers to discuss changes to their software pricing policy. It's thought that Sony are likely to introduce a sliding royalties scale, whereby publishers nominating lower RRPs will be charged lower royalties. What does that mean to you and me? New games being offered for sale below the usual £30-35 price point.
Trade rivals CTW (The Entertainment Computer Trade Weekly) lead this week with the story that Electronics Boutique have scotched rumours that the chain is about to be taken over by an unnamed retail giant. A news story that gladdens our heart also appears on the front page and concerns the appointment of Simon Jeffrey as the new President of LucasArts. Simon's an industry veteran and our Editor remembers many a 'working lunch' with the likeable chap when Simon was a mere PR Executive at EA. One dreadful interview with the then head of EA, Larry Probst, in Chicago still makes the Ed grimace with embarrassment. Good work Simon - maybe we'll get some LucasArts games for review now...
