| Premier Manager 99 (PlayStation) |
Back in FG13 (February 4, 1999), Gremlin hadn't yet been swallowed up by the behemoth that's today's Infogrames and they were releasing their latest addition to the PlayStation football management simulation genre, Premier Manager 99. This was a great, solid, footy manny game for its day, scoring 91 per cent and leading our very own Gideon Kibblewhite to comment, "Management isn't everyone's cup of tea, of course, and you'll only ever get out what you put in. You can't simply turn up on match days and expect to get your team into Europe - it has to be a labour of love because all the club's departments are crying out for your undivided attention."
One year on and the game's showing its age. Although still solid and enjoyable, there have been others that have proved themselves more accomplished and more enjoyable to play, most notably Codemasters' excellent LMA Manager. Gideon now says, "It's been surpassed by quite a margin. If I were to review the game again today I'd still give it a respectable 80 per cent, but it's not deserving of 91 per cent given today's competition."
