| A bad week for games... |
We're having a bit of a departure in Re-View this week. Whereas we normally pick one game from a Future Gamer of a year ago, FG14 (February 11, 1999) was a poor week for software reviews. Castlevania 64 was the best of the bunch but only scored a 'not bad' 78 per cent, prompting reviewer Martin Kitts to comment, "Castlevania fans might be a little disappointed, but this first N64 outing stands up on its own as a short-lived but better-than-average game which could have done with an extra six months in playtesting. Almost, but not quite."
Next up we had the uninspired PC adventure game from Take 2 called Biosys. What? Never heard of it? We're not surprised. Ben Morris reviewed the game and said, "If you want to know what it's like to be an old man trapped in a rainforest then perhaps Biosys deserves a look. If you are an old man then even that is lost and the ecological element won't keep you entertained for long."
Rounding off a miserable week for quality games this time last year was A Bug's Life on PlayStation. Reviewer Stephen Pierce was moved to pen this flowery piece of prose: "A Bug's Life smacks of being Spyro's less sophisticated sibling. Not offensive, merely inadequate to the task. It is unfortunately probable that even the infants of today would very soon tire of this kettle-fearing, jam fan. Before repairing out to drink alcopop and smoke tabs, one assumes."
A year later and all three games have thankfully been forgotten about and long surpassed.
