It doesn't seem like it, but it was a whole year ago that we first reviewed the wonderful Mario Party on N64 (FG18, March 11, 1999). This wacky collection of mini-games led reviewer Jez Bickham to say: "Of course, you'll never play Mario Party on your own, and you will require a couple of hours, some friends, and liquid refreshment to get the most out of it, but it's simply too enjoyable to ignore. And, moreover, it's good to see some game characters with personality back on the scene, having been over-exposed, of late, to various dismal dullards of the Crash, Spyro and Gex variety. Be in no doubt, Mario Party is an obscene amount of fun. One day, someone will pass laws about this sort of thing."
Jez awarded the game 86 per cent. One year on and we actually think Jez was too miserly with his percentages. This game is still causing members of the team injury in the shape of blisters in the middle of their hands. Mario Party has stood the test of time and has come through with flying colours, and these days we'd give it a resounding 90 per cent.
