| Premier Manager 99 |
PC football management games have been around almost since the PC launched, but not all of them are excellent. One year ago this week we were Premier Manager 99 from Gremlin (they hadn't been swallowed up by Infogrames then). Sadly, as reviewer Ben Morris pointed out, PM99 had a few problems: "Beneath the irritating presentation and cumbersome interface, Premier Manager '99 is a fairly run-of-the-mill football management game. Sadly it carries this off with no panache whatsoever. With the appearance of Championship Manager 3 in the same month there can be no excuse to settle for second best. As is often the case in soccer, there can only be one winner and Premier Manager 99's name definitely isn't on the trophy." Ben scored the game a very fair 64 per cent.
One year on and PM99's dropped further towards the relegation zone. Though it wasn't a complete and utter waste of code, it just doesn't compare to CM3. Today we'd score the game at just above average and give it 55 per cent.
