Xena-style strategy shenanigans with totally bodacious Greek dudes and dudettes!
Tom Mayo

Apparently, Invictus takes up the story where Homer's Odyssey ends. The wisdom of trying to continue the work of one of the most famous writers in the history of the planet is dubious, but hey - at least the folk at Virgin/Interplay are ambitious. Athena's feeling well chuffed, you see. After her success with Odysseus (success being a relative term, as it still took him a fair old while to get home), she's taken to strutting around Mount Olympus like she owns the place, and it's getting right on Poseidon's tits. He dares her to do it again, to prove it wasn't a fluke, and she takes the challenge. If her mortal hero (that's you, by the way) succeeds in defeating Poseidon's troops, he will ascend to demi-godhood.

When you start a new game, you have to choose two heroes from an impressive list of names: Hercules, Achilles, Perseus - the gang's all here. Unfortunately, no specific game info is given on the characters. This omission is easily solved by flicking through the manual, but it's annoying nonetheless. Those of you familiar with Greek mythology can make educated guesses, but will equally be thrown by the revelation that Orion, The Hunter, is a Zulu chieftain type. Er, since when?
