Explosive expansion for Future Publishing's games email magazine and website
On November 5 1998, Future Publishing pioneered email deliverable magazines with the successful launch of Future Gamer. A year and a half later and Future are pioneering again with the imminent launch of www.dailyradar.co.uk, a sister website to the hugely popular American website www.dailyradar.com.
Having built a great reputation among both consumers and members of the gaming industry, Future Gamer's full-time staff of four are to be joined by another eight members as the site morphs from www.futuregamer.com to www.dailyradar.co.uk at the end of April.
This means the Daily Radar brand of websites (www.dailyradar.com in America and www.dailyradar.co.uk in England, with further Daily Radar websites opening across Europe before the end of the year) will now be staffed by almost 30 full time journalists and webmasters, working hand-in-hand to bring readers the world's first truly 24-hour gaming website. While the Americans sleep, the British team will be updating the shared database with breaking games news, reviews, features, previews, opinions, hints, tips and demos, and then when it's time for bed for us, the Americans will continue.
Leading the UK editorial team will be former Future Gamer Editor Andy Smith, who steps up to the role of Associate Editor on Daily Radar UK. Andy is joined by Future Gamer News Editor Andy Ashwin, who assumes the role of Sony Channel Editor, PC Gamer Online Editor Jim McCauley, who joins the team as PC Channel Editor and former Total Games Network Editor Mark Eveleigh, who becomes Sega and Nintendo Channel Editor.
"Future Gamer has been a success story from day one," said Andy Smith, "and now we're taking the next logical step and adding our expertise to a global magazine with local content. Though the weekly email was one of Future Gamer's unique selling points, it's become increasingly apparent to us that our audience have such a thirst for games news that they'll visit the website each day, rather than wait for the weekly magazine, and with ever-cheaper Internet access, the benefits of an offline read are reduced."
The Future Gamer website will continue to be updated with all the latest news on a daily basis until the morphing process is complete. More information can be found on the official Future Network website.
