This one will really test the Dreamcast Network
Sega of America have announced a deal with Activision to publish id Software's Quake III Arena for Dreamcast. Using the Sega Dreamcast Network, gamers will be able to play against both Dreamcast and PC owners. This will be the first time that PC and console gamers can go head-to-head in a real-time networked frag-fest.
"id Software have continually been at the forefront of online games and we are thrilled to have them involved in our efforts to expand the way people play games on Sega Dreamcast," said Charles Bellfield, Director of Corporate Communications, Sega of America. "In 2000, Sega's focus is on online games for Sega Dreamcast and we are pleased to be shipping a proven hit such as Quake III Arena."
The Dreamcast version of Quake III Arena will feature two exclusive new arenas, a redesigned interface and menu system, plus a two- to four-player split-screen option.
