Sony Hit by Second DVD Bug

PlayStation 2 owners get another bonus: they can copy DVD movies to videotape...

First they found out they could play DVD videos sold in other parts of the world, which was nice, and now PlayStation2 owners have discovered that their brand new console has a second unexpected ability: the analogue RGB output can be used to illegally copy DVD material to videotape!

This second DVD bug could open up Sony to a wave of Hollywood lawsuits if it's proven that the company failed to make sufficent copy protection provisions.

Sony have already defended themselves vigorously, though, saying they did nothing wrong and insisting that the RGB interface complies with DVD specifications.

No doubt the problem will get sorted out before long, but in the meantime, Sony face another embarrassing headache.
