There are also a couple of features you won't find in most driving games. Pressing the Triangle button while driving triggers an instant replay. Even better is the telemetry option, which allows you to perfect your traversal of each course by examining a lap in detail and comparing it to previous performances. This works brilliantly, and is something we hope developers of other driving games will take note of.
The graphics are impressive as well. Don't expect flashy effects and tumbling cars, but the high frame rate, draw distance and lack of pop-up are refreshing in a PlayStation game with 22 cars on the track.
The sound effects, on the other hand, are perhaps not as good as they could be. While the pit crew voiceover works well, the engine noises tend to grate. This is probably quite realistic, but it does become annoying in a long race.
The most important thing in a game like this, of course, is the simulation of the car. While the physics aren't up there with games like Gran Turismo 2, the feel of the cars is pretty believable. The controls are responsive, and support for the Dual Shock controller is well implemented.
