CTW (Computer Trade Weekly) leads with the news that Infogrames have completed the acquisition of US-based Accolade for $50 million. In cash - which is nice. Infogrames chief Bruno Bonnel then issued a 'come and join us' to other European publishers and CTW quotes him as saying: "Having a critical mass in the US also gives us clear leverage for European publishers to get into the US." Which could mean anything, frankly.
MCV's major front page story regards the departure of Les Edgar from Bullfrog. Edgar founded the company with Peter Molyneux back in 1987 and the company became renowned for innovative titles such as Magic Carpet and Populous. Oh, and Dungeon Keeper and Syndicate Wars. Not to mention Hi-Octane. Which was crap.
Also making MCV's front page is THE Games' plans to release an N64 Star Wars: Episode 1 bundle in the summer. MCV also reports that WH Smiths are looking to PC manufacturers to standardise packaging. WH gets annoyed when he has to stack different-sized boxes on his shelves. "If Nintendo and Sony can do it, then so can PC," he snapped.
MCV also speculates that GT's Bullitt-style chase 'em up Driver will comfortably outsell Ridge Racer Type 4 when it's released some time in July. Driver is a full-on 3D mission-based game which sees you hurtling around San Francisco, New York, Miami and Los Angeles. There are car chases and all sorts. Honestly.
