What people in the industry really play...
Glenn Corpes

Glenn Corpes was one of the founding fathers of top codeshop Bullfrog, where he's worked on such masterpieces as Populous and Syndicate. Glenn's recently severed ties with Bullfrog however and has co-founded a new codeshop, The Lost Toys, in order to re-capture the innovation missing from so many of today's budget-driven designers and coders.

What games are tickling your fancy at the moment?
Half-Life for the first five or six hours. Excellent hardcore, skill-based blasting and a very compelling storyline in the same game. Tanktics. Very nice idea, a bit fiddly to actually play. Action Supercross - the only game ever to beat Tetris when you only have five minutes to spare (if you don't know what it is, download the 1Mb demo!).

What was the first computer game you ever played?
A game on the Commodore Pet in 1980, I have no idea what it was called, it involved a 'ball' bouncing horizontally and vertically around the screen while you placed diagonal deflectors to try and hit another 'ball'. It seemed fun at the time, I'd love to know what it was called and to try it again on an emulator.

Any particular favourites from yesteryear?
Colossal Cave: the first ever adventure game, incredible atmosphere and never really bettered by the over-complex text adventures that followed. Spindizzy: I love games where a feel for the control system pays off. Dungeon Master: the first game I ever spent months playing. Super Mario World: much better than Mario 64. Ultima Underworld 1 & 2: the only RPGs to better Dungeon Master. Quake: playing this on a LAN is the thing I miss most about Bullfrog. Tetris on the Game Boy.

What has been the biggest videogaming let-down for you last year?
I can't see the point of pointing out that a shite game is shite so I'll mention Half-Life again. After about six hours I started to get irritated, I was waiting for the next bit of the story and thinking 'not another one of these tossers to kill', maybe I should have played it on easy...

Any titles you're really looking forward to in the near future?
TA Kingdoms: I got into all of the other RTS games too late to compete in multiplayer, I don't want to miss out on this one. Quake 3: I'm really looking forward to a game where the single-player isn't 'turn the corner, kill, save, maybe see a bit of story, do it again', I just hope the multiplayer is closer to Quake than Quake 2.

When all's said and done, what's your favourite game ever?
Very hard question, if I wanted to look cool I'd say Underworld 2, if I wanted to be obscure I'd say Action Supercross but to be honest it's Quake for the multiplayer.
