News For You

Dear Future Gamer,

I have just finished reading issue 28 of FG and am glad to see that you are starting to get the mix of the mag just right, ie with a huge news section.

I understand that it is important to print reviews and previews etc. to keep some of your readers happy, and to give you an excuse to play the games instead of working, but isn't that what we get from the existing print-based mags from Future Publishing?

I just think that the weekly nature of the mag, and its unique distribution system lends itself perfectly to the reportage of games industry news. It saves me, and I'm sure many others, the time it takes to trawl the numerous game websites out there just to get up-to-date news.

I do realise that if there is no interesting news that week then the news section will be on the slim side and after events like the just-passed E3 show it will be overflowing (I do understand that you have no control over the availability of news).

It's just that I think that if FG is going to create a name for itself alongside your sister mags, Edge and Arcade to name but two, it is going to have to exploit its strengths. Are you exempt from the libel laws for instance? Now that would be cool.

FG: If only we were Karl, if only we were. Sadly we're not and must respect the libel laws like our sister print magazines. As for the balance of FG, as you point out yourself, the amount of news worth reporting is beyond our control and some weeks are going to be lighter than others. We're fully aware of our advantage in being able to deliver up-to-date news to people and thus negate their need to trawl games websites for anything interesting. Rest assured, we're trying to improve the magazine all the time.
