Console Controversy

Dear Future Gamer

This probably won't be taken seriously, but I think you should skip the console games from Future Gamer. No offence, but I believe that the majority of PC gamers don't care much for consoles and, quite frankly, look down on them a bit. I'm one of those guys, and this is mostly because PCs are better at running games, and the keyboard/mouse also offers a much better way of controlling your games.

I think you should look at it this way: exactly how many of the people who receive Future Gamer don't have a PC? Uhm... no-one. Sure, some people have both a PC and a console, but I'll bet most PC owners play games on their PC and wouldn't switch to a console. The problem is that FG has turned (and is turning) more and more into a 'console-only' mag, and since all readers have at least a PC, that's illogical. More and more news about silly Game Boy Color conversions (Carmageddon for the GB? I laughed my ass off), more and more console reviews, constant letters from people writing in about their thoughts about the console war and so on. Hey, this might all be great, but not for PC owners who don't give a damn about it.

So I was thinking, how about making two versions of FG, one for PC gamers and one for console owners? You would, of course, be forced to trim down the size of the mag for each edition a bit, but I think it would be great as people would get the info they wanted. There's only one single PC review with each mag and three console-ones, and most people would like to see more of this. All I know is that I don't even bother reading the first two lines of a console review - I'm never gonna play it anyway.

I hope that other people will write in about this as I'm close to stopping my FG subscription because of all the console fuzz. On the other hand, I like the articles and features you have, but the main reason for a mag subscription should still be news and reviews.

FG: Sorry Alexander, Future Gamer's deliberately multiformat because we're aimed at gamers who are interested in the whole games scene. Of course the majority of our readers have a PC, but we know the majority of our readers also own a console and want to keep abreast of the latest games coming out on other systems. As for the different versions of FG, it's something we're still investigating and we may well offer this service in the future.
