Getting into Videogames

Dear Future Gamer

Hi to the Future Gamer team and congratulations on the continued success and quality of your publication.

I have two questions. Firstly, where can I get hold of MCV and Computer Trade Weekly? News services like yourself and literally every other videogame-related service out there are continually quoting from them, and as a person who likes to keep up to date with what's going on in the industry, I'd like to get hold of them myself.

Secondly, if I wanted to break into the videogame industry, how would I go about it? I'm not interested in the coding of games but more in the development and marketing side of things. I feel that now is as good a time as any to do this and with my GCSEs a year away, it gives me enough time to do some research.

Thank you for your help, it's much appreciated.

Richard Hale

FG: CTW and MCV are trade-only publications, but you can email MCV with any subscription enquiries and you can call Kathryn Humphrey on (01462) 442486 for CTW.

As for your second point, get your GCSEs under your belt. Do some A levels and then get a relevant degree. I know that sounds like a standard answer, but the fact is there are no hard and fast rules on getting into the videogames industry, or any other industry. One thing I've learned though, is that enthusiasm is something that can't be taught and a genuine interest in the subject matter goes a heck of a long way. Good luck.
