Great Videogames Through The Ages
Theme Park

One of the biggest selling games of all time, Bullfrog's Theme Park (first released on the Amiga in 1994) captured the imagination of gamers worldwide with its simple yet compelling gameplay.

Charged with designing and running a small theme park, it included rides that could break down, visitors who would puke everywhere and leave rubbish, entertainers who would dress up in costumes and make fools of themselves and the opportunity to put extra salt on the chips in order to boost drinks sales. It might not sound like the most riveting of games but it certainly was. The game's simple interface made designing and building the parks a lot of fun and there was much satisfaction to be had in seeing your monthly profits increase. Theme Park had the kind of gameplay that could see the hours fly past without you noticing, which is a sign of a truly great game, and we salute it for that.

Theme Park's creators Peter Molyneux and Demis Hassabis have since left Bullfrog, though. Peter's working on the much anticipated Black and White from his new code shop, Lionhead, and Demis recently started his own code shop, Elixir, whose first three games are to be published by Eidos.

Theme Park World, the sequel to the original game, is under construction at Bullfrog with a release date set for the end of the year. We can't wait.
