A Site For Sore Eyes
Adventure

Younger gamers probably won't even have heard of Adventure, but those of us who've been gaming for a while will definitely get all misty-eyed about this ancient, text-only, erm, adventure. Your aim in the original was simply to explore the Colossal Caves, collecting treasure, fighting the occasional dwarf, working out where you were, overcoming puzzles and generally trying to stay alive; now you can play the original game online.

There have been several improvements, including a compass to help you move around and an easier system of picking up objects, but otherwise it's the same 'poke snake with rod'-type adventuring malarkey that we all know and love. Well, maybe love's a bit strong - this is as hard as ever, and just as frustrating, even though there's a useful FAQ which gives some helpful hints on how to overcome some of the more challenging puzzles. Spend a while getting into it, though, and you'll be hooked by its simple, classic gameplay.

It may be no match for today's multiplayer, 3D, deathmatch blastathons, but for a refreshing change of pace, and a look at just how far games have developed, the website for Adventure is well worth checking out. Click here and get lost...
