How challenging is the game overall then?
We found that the computer opponents soon became a little easy to overcome, irrespective of the chosen skill level. Although this shouldn't spoil the fun too much, the two-player game is Ready 2 Rumble's strong point. Come to think of it, all sports games are better with a mate.
What's the control system like?
Controlling your fighter is simplicity itself, even with the Dreamcast's slightly unwieldy controller. The analogue stick lends itself well to a game of this type, and the triggers provide you with a high and low guard. Plenty of different punches and combos are easily achieved by combining one of the four main buttons with a joystick direction. Of course, the way you fight will rely heavily on your chosen fighter - a nippy little fella is best suited to a hit-and-run style, whereas a big slow boxer might just stand there and slug it out. If you land a particularly good punch you'll be rewarded with a letter. Do this six times in a round and you'll spell the word 'rumble', granting extra speed and power for a limited period of time.
Sounds great!
It sure does, and it looks like another reason to own a Dreamcast. Expect the full review soon in Future Gamer.
Excellent presentation throughout
The boxers seem to have real personalities
Training mini-games should be good fun
Best served with beer and mates
Single-player championship could prove to be a bit too easy
