Donkey Kong 64 Row

Planned DK64 RRP of £60 unpopular at retail

With Woolworths currently selling Wip3out for £27.99, it comes as no surprise that retailers have reacted angrily to news that Nintendo distributor THE Games are planning a £59.99 pricepoint for Rare's Donkey Kong 64, one of the year's most eagerly-awaited N64 titles. The game will include a 4Mb RAM Pak, which is required for the game.

Undoubtedly, for many N64 gamers DK64 is a must-have title, but many retailers are shocked at the price. Indeed, many are still reeling from the news that Perfect Dark has slipped until March next year.

However, THE Games remain upbeat about DK64's chances and reckon it will sell, even at £60. "The price reflects the fact that Donkey Kong 64 boasts the biggest cart size of any N64 game and offers consumers excellent gameplay value," a THE Games spokesperson told trade paper MCV. "It's a much bigger game than Zelda and has a very strong heritage. We still think it will be a huge success for us at Christmas."
