| Use Your PlayStation Dual Shock with Dreamcast |
One of the greatest controllers in existence will soon be attaching to your Dreamcast
At last, someone out there is giving us an alternative to Sega's standard Dreamcast controller design. Ultimate Video Accessories have just announced a device that will allow Dreamcast owners to use Sony's brilliant Dual Shock analogue controller. The device, called the Dreamstation, will have the following features, according to UVA:
Connects the PlayStation's Dual Shock controller to the Dreamcast.
Connects any PlayStation Steering Wheel to the Dreamcast.
Uses the force feedback signal from Dreamcast games to activate the Dual Shock's vibration function.
Allows gamers to play games with the very familiar PSX controllers and steering wheels.
This may not seem like that big a deal, until you consider games such as Shenmue or Gundam. Both of these games force you to move your character using the D-Pad and control your viewing direction by using the analogue pad. Obviously, with the current Dreamcast design, it's impossible to move and look around at the same time. The Dual Shock will allow for this as you'll be able to move the character using your left hand and the D-Pad, and look around using your right hand and the right analogue stick. Of course, we're assuming that the Dreamstation will work so that the player can use either of the two analogue sticks on the Dual Shock as a replacement for the Dreamcast analogue stick.
The Dreamstation will be available from October at the Ultimate Video Accessories website.
