Miyamoto Still Loves Cartridge

Nintendo's legendary game designer defends cartridge format

Shigeru Miyamoto, the man responsible for Mario and Zelda, still believes his games are best suited to the cartridge format. "For the way I make games, cartridges are best," he told MCV. "I still believe that many companies don't appreciate the advantages of the format. DVD makes developing less risky for third parties, but because we can install larger RAM at a lower cost into Dolphin, the medium is similar to cartridges."

Nintendo's next console, code-named 'Dolphin', will use the DVD format, which should attract a lot more third party developers. The N64 has suffered from a dearth of software, despite the fact that the best games are still made for Nintendo's console.
